On September 20, 2003, the Maywood Station Historical Committee and the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway co-hosted the Firefighter's Educational and Training Foundation's Safety Train and Railroad Safety Awareness Day at Maywood Station. (Photo by E. S. Kaminski)

The Safety Train consisted of three different types of tank cars, a classroom car, flat car carrying an ISO tank and caboose and was available throughout the day at Railroad Safety and Awareness Day at Maywood Station on September 20, 2003 for instructional courses on railroad safety for local emergency responders. The Maywood Station Historical Committee received the 2004 County of Bergen, New Jersey Historical Preservation Award in the category of Restoration and Preservation from the County of Bergen, New Jersey Historical Preservation Advisory Board.
