"NEW YORK, SUSQUEHANNA & WESTERN RAILROAD IN NEW
JERSEY"
BOOK IS AVAILABLE
Originally incorporated in 1881, the New York,
Susquehanna & Western Railroad has had a long history in
New Jersey. The railroad expanded by the early 1890s
into the thriving Pennsylvania coalfields and eventually
grew to over 200 miles of trackage in the northern
portion of New Jersey. Always viewed as an underdog in a
marketplace surrounded by much larger railroads, the New
York, Susquehanna & Western emerged from 40 years of
Erie Railroad control; survived several bankruptcies,
reorganizations, abandonments, and retrenchments through
innovative passenger and freight service offerings; and
transformed into today's regional rail carrier with a
size far greater than ever imagined. Noted author,
historian and Maywood Station Historical Committee president Edward S.
Kaminski has assembled a wealth of images, most of which
have never appeared in print, showcasing the history of
the original lines served by the New York, Susquehanna &
Western Railroad. The 128-page book
Arcadia Publishing Company
is illustrated with
over 200 quality photographs with detailed captions.
"New York, Susquehanna & Western Railroad in New Jersey"
will provide the reader with a visual journey into this
historic railroad's past.
The book is available for $22.00 each at
Maywood Station on Museum Open House dates or by mail order by
clicking on our
Museum
Store Page.
All proceeds go to further preservation
and maintenance of the historic Maywood Station Museum.

MAYWOOD STATION FEATURED IN THE NOVEMBER 2006
ISSUE OF VANITY FAIR MAGAZINE
Earlier this past summer, Vanity
Fair Magazine contracted the Maywood Station Historical
Committee for use of Maywood Station to be used as a backdrop for a
photo shoot involving up-and-coming “alternative country” music
performers. The term "alternative country" has gotten hazier since
it was coined in the 1990s to describe music that draws on folk and
country but is produced and consumed outside the Nashville-Los
Angeles pop machine.
The photo feature in
Vanity Fair Magazine is titled THE BOHEMIANS,
and features six Grammy winning or nominated musicians including
Ryan
Adams, Patty Griffin, Alejandro Escovedo,
Tift Merritt, Steve Earle
and Dan Zanes. Vanity Fair Magazine chose these artists as
they define the essence of the "alternative country" term: country
that is cerebral and devoid of anything hick.
The photo shoot took place on June 20th
and the artists were
photographed using historic Maywood Station and Caboose 24542 as a
backdrop. The November issue of
Vanity Fair Magazine hit newsstands on October 10,2006
and is distributed worldwide.
